The Yakpack Story

“Life is a journey, so fall in love with the journey and you will be in love forever. Yakpack, for the journey”

Yakpack is a small company with big plans. We’re nomads, wanderers, travellers, adventurers — and just everyday people who are endlessly curious about the world and the journey we’re all on. Yakpack was born to celebrate that journey, and all the glorious, messy, meaningful moments we collect along the way.

We’re a brand that celebrates people, the planet, and the freedom to live life your way — and love it every day.

What is a Yakpack?

Our first product, the Yakpack Nomad, was inspired by the beautiful “yak blankets” our founder fell in love with while living in Kathmandu many moons ago.

In 2025, packing light for a short trip, she stitched a simple fabric sleeve to carry her yak blanket easily in her handbag. That weekend, she used it as a pillow on the plane, a blanket on the train, a wrap by the beach campfire, and a shawl for dancing in the village square. A revelation.

And just like that — the Yakpack was born:

“The little pack with the versatility of a yak.” (Sorry, we had to get that in.)

It’s an incredible travel companion. Lightweight, adaptable, and ideal for anyone who travels to feel free — and wants to leave the baggage behind. But it’s also much more than that. It’s for the journey — all of it.

Hundreds of uses, just one Yakpack:
camping, surfing, crying on the sofa to Adele, music festivals, wild swimming, skinny dipping, dog blanket, morning meditation, yoga savasana, Netflix binging, hiding from your own cringe. You name it. Yakpack goes with you.

Our Journey

Our founders met in Petaling Street Market in Kuala Lumpur — he, a trader from the Himalayas; she, an ex-diver and island girl working in the music industry. Over the next 15 years, they married, travelled, opened a bar in Kathmandu, had a daughter, moved to the UK, ran an interiors shop in Hampshire, had a market stall on the Portobello Road and in Greenwich, opened a jewellery shop in Spain, and saw in the millennium on safari in South Africa — with a Gladiator.

Nearly 20 years later, no longer married but still family, they decided to launch Yakpack together. Because the journey doesn’t always follow the route you expect — and sometimes, you end up somewhere even better.

Starting Yakpack has brought help and kindness from incredible people, in Nepal and London. We’re humbled by the support. And we’re proud to be working with local, independent businesses in Nepal to create a product that is unique, handmade, and full of potential. Our partners are young, skilled, and full of ideas — and we believe in their bright future.

Yakpack Nomad — the Creative Side

Our blog is a space to nurture creative voices and celebrate stories from the road — in words, art, photography and music. Already, a talented young photographer based in London is contributing to our gallery. Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing work from guest writers and artists from around the world.

We’d love you to be part of it. Tell us your story. Share your journey.

Is there a yak in my pack?

The “yak blankets” we use were traditionally named because they were said to be used by yak herders high in the Himalayas. They’re warm, lightweight, easy to clean, and practical — made from a blend of cotton and acrylic, and often dyed in bright colours linked to Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Pure yak wool, on the other hand, is a rare and premium product. It’s harvested only once a year, by hand, from a small number of domesticated yaks (about 12 million worldwide — compare that to 1.2 billion sheep). The soft underfur is luxurious, like cashmere, while the rest is coarse and rough. It can fetch up to £20 an ounce.

Yak herders often wear the bright synthetic blankets and trade the precious yak wool to support their families.

So no — your Yakpack doesn’t contain pure yak wool. But it is a premium, durable product, handmade by real people, and priced fairly so everyone in the supply chain gets paid properly.

We’re a No Bullshit Brand

We won’t sell you dreams. We’re not pretending this is some exclusive luxury — and we’re not inflating prices to look fancy.

Yakpack is a really good product, made by great people, sold at a fair price. We’re here to celebrate the journey — and the people who make it worthwhile.

We hope you’ll come along for the ride

See you on the road,
Tara G
