The Yakpackers

Now that you’ve picked your words, what kind of Yakpacker are you?

The Explorer & Adventurer

Your words are daring, creative, adventurous, thrill seeking and wild. You are going where the beaten track ends, and the wilderness begins. You don’t care what you ride on as long as you get to where you are going. Rock climbing, free diving on hidden reefs and trekking along mountain paths is your happy place. The people you meet all speak the international language of respect for their fellow adventurers, the environments they visit and the extraordinary ride they are on. Even when you are not looking for adventure, it finds you and that’s the way you like it.

The Pleasure Passenger

The sun is shining, the drinks are cold, the sheets are pristine and there are people behind the scenes making sure that everything is planned and running smoothly. You are happy not to have to make plans and just go where you are led. Your words are fabulous, languid, luxurious and sensual. You like the good things in life, but if things go wrong you take that in your stride as well, you don’t do stress because you are along for the journey and will always find pleasure in it.  The reason that you are so relaxed is probably because you have a person in your life that is a Sightseer Tourist..

The Sightseer Tourist

Bookings, visa’s, insurance, hotels, day trips, airport transfers, tours, restaurants are all booked and have been for months. You have a list (okay lots of lists!) of what you want to see and do, you have done the research, you have read the tips and are fully prepared. Your suitcase has wheels and a lock, your clothes are in a packing block and when you sit down in your pre-booked window seat you are totally at ease as you know that everything is planned to perfection. Your friends may tease you, but it you that has the insect repellent and factor 50 and the right amount of foreign currency to get you out of the airport, you sometimes feel that the only reason they can be so cool is that they know you have taken care of anything. Your words are practical, calm and organized. You have an App for everything and are not going to end up having a lousy meal in some overpriced tourist trap, because you have done the research, got the best table and checked out the menu well in advance. You see all the sights and get all the pictures and that is the way you like it, travelling is too important to leave to chance.

The Nomadic Traveller

Are you every really home or away? Everywhere you go is home and you are always away. You become immersed in your journey, the places you go and the people you meet are all part of the world that you inhabit with ease. You don’t have plans, you are never lost as you wander with no agenda. You have stories to tell and when you describe a place it is through the senses – how it smelt, how it felt, these are the things that always stay with you. There in a book in your battered bag so there are never delays or detours, simply time to read, observe and converse. Your words are relaxed, cool, daring, sensual and lover, you wear your experiences on your skin like the perfume of leather, sea and smoke.  You travel because the thought of not doing so has never entered your mind. The journey is everything and everything is the journey.

The Culture Collector

The ancient ruins of a temple, the melancholic strings of a guitar, the voices joined in song at a majestic cathedral and the dusty sleeve of a forgotten text calls to you and you can feel the people who have come before, their lives rooting everything to the past. You are found in museums, galleries, souks and ancient monuments, you read the books that tell the story how civilisations were built and the art they created. Your words are intellectual and curious,  you see travel as a way to expand your mind and connect to the past.

The Globetrotting Gourmand

The globetrotting gourmand is a person with a huge appetite for life and their perfect day would be full English breakfast & a pint at Wetherspoons in Heathrow, lunch, a Balik Ekmek near the Galata Bridge in Istanbul and dinner a tasting menu by the amazing Chef Pam at Potong, in Bangkok. You will go to Mercado do Livramento (Setúbal, Portugal) before dawn and wait for the fishermen to come in on the beach in Galle. You will talk to farmers, question wine growers and sit under a coconut tree drinking toddy in Kerela with the guy that just climbed to the top to collect the fruit. You sip cocktails at Lola’s Bar in Miami, hang out at The Beachhouse in Ibiza and go dancing at Mio Tuyo in Havana. You know where to get the best Char Kuey Teow in Penang and met some of your best friends at Sam’s Bar in Kathmandu. The world is there to be gobbled up and enjoyed to the max, your words are thrill seeking, sensual, gourmand, prepared, lover, go getter, trend setter.

The Get up & Go Traveller

Weekend in Ibiza with the gang? City break to Barcelona with your bestie? House party in the Cotswolds? Out of season package holiday deal to the Canaries? If you can be there you will be! Travel gives you the opportunity to hang out with your friends and make new ones. You take loads of picture for your socials, everything is an adventure, and fun is the name of the game. You love a party, impromptu meals, fancy Insta-worthy cocktails and your suitcases are always ready to be packed. Everyone knows that if they have last minute tickets for an event, to get you on speed dial. You just wanna have fun!

The Jetsetter

It’s five star all the way for you, champagne corks pop on your private jet, and the concierge service has your bags unpacked when you arrive at the hotel. The hostess at the VIP airport lounge, chauffeurs at the limousine services and the personal shopper in New York all know you by name. Even when you don’t have a million dollars to your name, you travel like a jet-setting A lister – huge shades hide your identity, prosecco pops in place of champagne and your Louboutin’s were created with a tin of spray paint from B&Q. Being an A lister is all about attitude and style, you have both in buckets!
